Ohio State Students, Staff Will Pack 200,000 Meals for Veterans

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Approximately 600 Ohio State University students, student-athletes and staff members from the Office of Student Life, Department of Athletics and Alumni Association will pack more than 200,000 meals in a high-energy event at French Field House (460 Woody Hayes Drive) Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m.
The meals, combined with 125,000 non-perishable meals packed by Ohio State students earlier this month, will be donated Wednesday to the Military Veterans Resource Center (MRVC) for distribution through their Veterans Food Banks in Ohio. According to the Center, there are 140,000 veterans in Ohio who are food insecure.
The meals will be loaded up Tuesday evening and delivered Wednesday by student life staff with former Ohio State football player Ken Blair (1984 letterman) in his Buckeye football-themed tractor trailer rig. Blair, whose family has driven trucks loaded with football equipment to Ohio State away games for 37 years, will deliver approximately 47,000 bags packed with meals to three different Military Veterans Resource Center locations:
- The Chillicothe resource center offices at 631 Central Center, arriving about 8:30 a.m.;
- The Hamilton resource center offices at 633 High Street, Suite 101 in Hamilton, arriving at approximately 11:15 a.m.; and
- The Military Veterans Resource Center warehouse at 188 Heatherdown Dr., Westerville, arriving at approximately 3:15 p.m.
This is the third year for the event, which is a collaboration of the Kind Columbus initiative at the Columbus Foundation. More than 200,000 meals were packed and donated throughout Athens County, Ohio, last year.
