Olympic Experience: Lense and Loy Train in Colorado Springs

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s swimmers Andrew Loy and Noah Lense spent two weeks training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Co. last August with longtime University of Florida head coach, Gregg Troy.
“We had a unique opportunity to partner with USA Olympic Coach Gregg Troy in a training camp setting at the USOC in Colorado Springs this past August,” said Director of Swimming and Diving, Bill Dorenkott. “Noah and Andrew took advantage of the camp to get a jump start on their Olympic year preparations. The feedback from Coach Troy was very positive and we are already seeing the benefits of their commitment to become elite.”
Troy not only had a multitude of success at Florida, but on the national stage as well. He served as head coach of Team USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and has coached World Championship and Pan American teams.

Lense earned his highest career finish in the 200 meter butterfly at the 2019 NCAA Championships and won the B Final with a time of 1:40.79. He holds the school record in the event by over two seconds and has two additional records in the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay, both set in 2017.
“This is a special year with the Olympic Trials and Games fast approaching,” said Dorenkott. “Ohio State Aquatics has one of the finest Olympic traditions in the history of the sport. The Buckeyes boast over 75 Olympians in the aquatic disciplines and our hope is to add to that legacy in Tokyo 2020.”
After competing at US Nationals in Palo Alto, Calif., the two seniors left for the Olympic Training Center to spend the next twelve days training with Troy, who in his retirement from Florida is now the coach to a number of Olympians, including world record holder, Caeleb Dressel.

Loy holds a school record in the 200 IM and additional bests in the 200, 400 and 800 meter free relay. His personal record swim in the 400 free relay at the 2019 NCAA Championships gave him sole possession of the No. 2 time in program history.
The Buckeyes open competition Friday, Oct. 4 with the Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad meet at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
