COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Buckeyes suffered their third straight loss this afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field. No. 18 Rutgers topped No. 21 Ohio State by a single goal, with a final score of 1-0. Ohio State was unable to create offensive opportunities, and the day ended with a heartbreaking loss to move the Buckeyes to 6-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
In the ninth minute of the game, Rutgers forward Katie Larmour tapped in the ball with an assist by Annie Walsh. Neither team could find a solid rhythm for the remainder of the game, with possession going back-and-forth for 50 scoreless minutes.
Both teams were awarded five penalty corners and the Buckeyes outshot the Scarlet Knights 13-8. With five minutes left on the clock, the Buckeyes lifted goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez in favor of a field player and saw a few shot opportunities with attempts unable to find the back of the net. Hernandez had two saves in today’s game. She has collected 53 so far this season.
