No. 8 Ohio State Faces No. 1 Oklahoma This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 8 Ohio State University men’s gymnastics team is in for a challenge this weekend when it hits the road to face the No. 1 University of Oklahoma Sooners. The meet is set for an 8 p.m. ET start at McCasland Field House.

This isn’t the first time the Buckeyes have crossed paths with Oklahoma this year as both teams got their seasons started at the Rocky Mountain Open two weeks ago. Ohio State took fourth place in the event, while the Sooners took first, but Alec Yoder claimed titles in both the pommel horse and the parallel bars in a strong showing to start the year off.
Yoder’s 14.55 on the pommel pushed the captain past Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus, who nipped at Alec’s heels with a 14.10. On the parallel bars, Yoder tallied a 14.85 to earn the top spot.
Fifteen Buckeyes competed at the RMO, including five making their regular season debuts in the Scarlet and Gray. Ohio State got things underway on the rings with a score of 67.400 and followed that with scores of 71.150 (vault), 68.250 (parallel bars), 62.650 (high bar), 65.200 (floor) and 63.650 (pommel).
Angel Leon just missed out on a podium finish in his debut, notching a 13.75 on the rings, .15 away from third place. Max Andryuhschenko was the only Buckeye competing in the all-around on Saturday, taking sixth place with a 77.100 score
