Buckeyes Headed to Towson Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It’s another weekend on the road for the Ohio State women’s volleyball team as it prepares for the Towson Invitational. The Buckeyes open the tournament versus Princeton at 4 p.m. Friday before playing twice Saturday against Missouri (11 a.m.) and Towson (4:30 p.m.).

SCOUTING REPORT
Friday’s matchup with Princeton will be the second time the programs have met. The inaugural match took place back in 1978, which resulted in a three-set Buckeye win. The Tigers opened their season last week and went 3-0 at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament.
Missouri and Ohio State will battle on the court for the first time in program history on Saturday. The Tigers are coming into the contest with a 5-1 record, having won its last three matches.
Ohio State has only dropped one set during its three victories over Towson. The teams have not seen each other since the 2011 season. Currently, the Tigers are 3-3 with all of their wins coming via three-set sweeps.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buckeyes head into the weekend with a 5-1 mark after taking their first road trip of the season for the Rebel Invitational. The Buckeyes topped Southern Miss in five sets and swept Samford but fell to Ole Miss, 3-2, last weekend. Mia Grunze and Vanja Bukilic earned spots on the all-tournament team.
WITTE WITH THE HOT HAND
Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Witte has been the leader on offense for the Buckeyes over the first two weeks of the season. The Big Ten Co-Player of the Week (Aug. 27) tops the team and ranks eighth nationally with a .496 hitting percentage. She is averaging 3.13 kills and 1.04 blocks per set.
THREE AND OH
Ohio State was crowned champions of the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic after going a perfect 3-0 to start the 2018 campaign. The Buckeyes only dropped one set the entire weekend and outscored their opponents by 65 points. Lauren Witte was voted tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by Mia Grunze and Camry Halm.
FAREWELL ST. JOHN ARENA, HELLO COVELLI CENTER
The 2018 campaign is the final season for the Buckeyes inside St. John Arena. The women’s volleyball team will be moving to the Covelli Center, which is set to be complete in time for the 2019 season. The state-of-the-art facility is part of the new Ohio State Athletic District and will span over 100,000 square feet in total and include a locker room and coaching suite designed specifically for the women’s volleyball program.
MAKING HISTORY
Buckeye Nation had St. John Arena rocking against Texas A&M, especially the student section. A total of 1,022 Ohio State students showed up to support the women’s volleyball team, the largest student crowd in program history.
NEW ADDITIONS
Ohio State welcomed six new faces to its 2018 roster. The incoming class featured two transfers and four freshman – Olivia Dailey, Jordan Fry, Camryn Moeller, Mia Grunze, Vanja Bukilic and Adria Powell.
UP NEXT
The Buckeyes will conclude their non-conference slate at the Flyer Invitational in Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 14-15. Ohio State will challenge Evansville, Tennessee and Dayton.
