MANKATO, Minn. — The Ohio State University women’s ice hockey team bounced back to shutout the Minnesota State University Mavericks, 2-0, on Sunday at the Verizon Center.
The Nitty Gritty
- The Buckeyes opened the scoring in the first when Tatum Skaggs converted on a power play for her 11th goal of the season at the 7:43 mark of the period.
- Later in the first Sam Bouley got in on the scoring, netting her second of the year to push the lead to 2-0.
- Ohio State finished the first with 22 shots-on-goal to Minnesota State’s seven.
- OSU continued to pressure MSU in the second, putting 10 more SOG in the period, making MSU goaltender Abigail Levy work to keep the Mavericks in it.
- In the third MSU outshot Ohio State, 12-to-8, but OSU goaltender Andrea Braendli was up for the challenge as she stopped all 12 shots, and the other 15 she faced in the game for a 27-save shutout.
- Emma Maltais, Jacyn Reeves, Lauren Boyle and Erin Langermeier all tallied assists in the game.
- OSU Head Coach Nadine Muzerall earned her 50th win with today’s victory. This is the fastest that any coach in program history has tallied 50 wins.

First Period
The Buckeyes came out with a renewed vigor in the series finale, controlling the puck from the outset. When a Tristen Truax slashing penalty put OSU on the power play, Skaggs took the opportunity and buried a puck in the back of the Minnesota State net to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead. As Ohio State kept the pressure on throughout the first, Bouley fired a shot past Levy to extend the OSU lead, 2-0, ahead of the intermission.
Second Period
Things settled down in the second as Minnesota State kept the Buckeyes from padding their lead. Though no pucks found the back of the net in the second, Ohio State kept the pressure on, and took a 32-to-15 SOG advantage into the third.
Third Period
The Buckeyes entered the third looking to pad their lead, but Levy and the Mavericks still had some fight left in them and kept OSU from adding to the lead. The Mavericks outshot the Buckeyes in the final frame, 12-to-8, but Braendli stood tall to secure the 2-0 shutout.
What’s Next?
The Buckeyes have next weekend off before closing out their 2018 slate with a series against Mercyhurst. Puck drop for the series opener with the Lakers is set for 3:07 p.m. on Saturday, December 15 at the OSU Ice Rink.
