COLUMBUS, Ohio – Inside Lacrosse Magazine has released its 2019 preseason All-Americans and three Buckeyes are on the list – junior midfielder Ryan Terefenko, sophomore midfielder/face-off specialist Justin Inacio and junior attack Tre Leclaire.
The preseason All-Americans were chosen by a media panel. A total of 16 Big Ten players were selected to one of the four teams and the Buckeyes’ three representatives are second most among conference schools.
Terefenko, a Wilson High School graduate and native of Sinking Spring, Pa., is coming off a 2018 season that saw him earn third team All-America accolades by the USILA as a short stick defensive midfielder. From that spot, he did a little bit of everything for the Buckeyes: he scooped up 43 ground balls, caused seven turnovers and contributed four goals and five assists. In Big Ten games only, he finished second in the conference with 4.80 ground balls per game and was a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Inacio claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors after ranking No. 1 nationally amongst freshmen in face-off win percentage (.613). Over the last five games of the year, he went 75-of-102 (.735) in the face-off X and was just under 70 percent in Big Ten play. The Oakville, Ontario native had a team-high 47 ground balls and won 10 or more face-offs in each of the last five games of the season.
Like Terefenko, Leclaire is also a returning All-American this spring after earning USILA honorable mention honors last year as a sophomore. The team’s leading returning scorer, Leclaire already has 102 career points on 75 goals and 27 assists. Last year, he had seven multi-goal games, including six hat tricks, and was on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. This past summer, the Surrey, British Columbia native won a silver medal with Team Canada at the FIL World Championships. He had three goals and an assists in seven games.
