On Coach Meyer:
We appreciate him for everything he’s done here and the template he’s put together for Coach Day, as well as the culture and the tradition that he’s built here. I’m proud of everything that he’s done and I appreciate him for everything that he’s done. I couldn’t have asked for a better coach and person to go through my first four years here with.
On the Rose Bowl:
The Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy of them all and I’ve always known the Rose Bowl to be a huge bowl and a big deal. Until we got selected to go to the Rose Bowl, I really didn’t know much about it and how serious it was. This is one of the bowls that coaches and former players would dream about being in. It’s one of those things where I’m actually able to live out that dream and be a part of history. I’m enjoying it and taking it all in and it’s a part of history that can’t be taken away from me.
Chase Young
On his relationship with Ryan Day
I think my relationship with him has grown. He was the OC so I didn’t really talk to him like that. But when Coach Meyer wasn’t here he would come by my locker and just talk to me and I think that helped now that he’s going to be our head coach. I like Coach Day. He’s a players coach and I’m ready to get it rocking with him.On the Rose Bowl
I’m thinking of Cali! I’ve never been to Cali before. I think it’s going to be a great experience overall…It’s the granddaddy of them all. Coach Meyer used to watch it on TV. I have old high school coaches who played in it.
Mike Weber
Mindset:
Our mindset right now is to finish phase one of the bowl season and to win this game. We’re going to go out there and really try to win this game and do everything to follow the game plan. That’s the number one goal: win the game.
On Washington:
They fly around, they’re fast guys. I think they have two All-Americans on defense. They’re a hard-hitting team and they’re in the Rose Bowl for a reason.
Terry McLaurin
Summing up the year
The first thing I think about is all the adversity we went through (then) for us to win back-to-back Big Ten championships…Now it’s kind of silly to think I was going to leave last year but you still have those thoughts, “Can you get that much better?” This has been a great year and we’re looking to finish it off the right way.On Coach Meyer retiring
Coach Meyer would be the first one to tell you that the train doesn’t really stop for anybody. Obviously he’s a legend in this business but we have a game to win and he didn’t want that to take away from us winning this game. We’re focused on trying to beat Washington.
Chris Olave
On playing in his home state:
It’s unbelievable. I grew up watching the West Coast and the Rose Bowl. Being able to play in the Rose Bowl in my first year is awesome. I can’t wait to get out there.
Isaiah Prince
On Wyatt Davis starting:
It started with his practice habits. He’s always been a hard worker. When your number’s called, you have to be ready and Wyatt was prepared for this moment. He took it and ran with it.
On the Rose Bowl:
It’s the last go around with my brothers. That’s emotional to me because I love my brothers. We’re going to enjoy the moment. It’s one of the biggest bowl games in college football history. It’s the Rose Bowl so you have to soak it all in and enjoy it.
Malik Harrison
On improved play individually and the defense
It was me just being confident and being comfortable out there. Earlier, it was me being uptight and as the more the games went on it was me being loose and relaxed. We just feed off each other. If one guy is doing well, we all just roll up together.
On playing UW and the Rose Bowl bid
They have a good quarterback and running back. Growing up watching Ohio State go to the Rose Bowl, it is like a championship game. I’m excited to get out there. It means a lot. Growing up, it was everybody’s dream.
Wyatt Davis
On filling in for Knox
I hadn’t played a real football game for so long but I felt like I was ready because of the standard that is set by Coach Meyer, Coach Studrawa and all our leaders. I felt prepared and confident.
Grade for his first game as a starter
I would say there were a lot of good things I did and a lot of things I could have done better. I could have honed in on technique better. Focusing on the little things is what I am building off of.
Johnnie Dixon
On facing Washington
Every week I think we are ready for any task. We can’t really dwell on (not making the CFP). We have to be ready for Washington. It is a legit defense but we are a legit offense and we’ll be ready for it.
On the offensive state heading into the Rose Bowl
I think we are at our best right now. We are striking and everything is connected the right way.
Jonathan Cooper
On Coach Meyer’s last game
We’re going to send him off the right way; definitely believe that. We’re going to cherish the last month with him and make sure he knows how much we appreciated him as our coach.
On Washington
They’re definitely a good team. Our No. 1 goal of the Rose Bowl is winning the game. We’re full-focused toward Washington even with everything going on.

On preparing for Washington
We’re very focused. We don’t play the game tomorrow. We’re working our way up. We have different phases. As we get closer to the game, the focus will be more intent. This group is just enjoying each other right now.
On Coach Meyer’s retirement
We’re back-to-back Big Ten champs. We’re going to play in the Rose Bowl. Ultimately, he feels accomplished in what he’s done at this university. That’s when you can step away on a high note.
No. 1: no one wants to let anyone down. Who wouldn’t want to play at the Rose Bowl? It’s the biggest bowl of them all. All the fifth-year seniors want to send him off in the right way.
Dwayne Haskins
On performing this season despite distractions
We’re not done breaking records. Honestly, it has been a lot of fun being able to go out there on Saturday and play despite the distractions. On the field, we had a blast.
On having emotions for Coach Meyer’s last game
Of course. We want to send him off on the right note. It helps it’s in California. It helps it’s the Rose Bowl. It’s a great game and we’re glad to be apart of it.
On Coach Day
He comes to work everyday with a lot of intensity and energy. He’s a family man and loves his kids. He makes you feel like you’re part of his family.
Dre’Mont Jones
I think I had a very successful year. I feel like I did everything I needed to do and I want to enhance on it next game…I think my numbers show that I can do more. I had a goal this year and I think I set it.
On playing in the Rose Bowl
It was a great decision for me to come back (this year). I got to prove myself. Once I decided I was coming back I was fully locked in to being here, so I’m going to play with everything I have and give my all to the Buckeyes.
On Coach Day
Personally, I’m excited to see him. I talk to Coach Day a lot. I’m proud of him. He’s going to be successful.
