DENVER, Colo. – Joey McKenna, a senior captain for the Ohio State University wrestling program, finished his 141-pound bout at the 2018 NWCA All-Star Classic with eight unanswered points to register an 11-4 decision over No. 4 Kaid Brock (Oklahoma State). McKenna’s win represents the 11th by a Buckeye all-time in the event since Jude Skove was the first in 1985.
The seven-point margin of victory is tied for the largest by a Buckeye, matching Rex Holman’s 9-2 triumph over Andy Foster (Oklahoma) in the 1993 190-pound showdown.

McKenna struck quickly with a takedown under 20 seconds into the tussle. He found himself trailing not long after, however, following an escape, penalty point and Brock takedown. McKenna then beat the buzzer by two ticks for another takedown and the 5-4 edge entering Period 2.
Brock chose the down position and was eventually turned for four near-fall points. The third frame began with McKenna on bottom and stayed that way for much of the frame. He would escape late though, and tack on a riding time tally for the 11-4 final score.
So, that’s the good news. The bad? This is technically an exhibition and McKenna’s result shall not count towards his official record or the national rankings.
