This Week in Buckeye Hockey
The No. 4 Ohio State men’s hockey team takes on No. 15 Bowling Green in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Buckeyes (3-1-0, 0-0-0 B1G) and Falcons (3-1-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Columbus and at 7:07 p.m. Saturday in Bowling Green.
At the game Friday in Columbus, Script Ohio will be performed after the first period. Pregame, youth are invited to trick or treat on the concourse.
The game in Columbus will be streamed through the BTN Plus subscription package on BTN2Go. Saturday’s contest will be on FloHockey.tv. Ohio State radio will have the coverage on 1460 AM in Columbus, with the broadcast also on the Ohio State Buckeyes mobile app.

In the Rankings
In the USCHO poll Monday, the Buckeyes moved to No. 4 after splitting their series with Massachusetts. The Buckeyes opened the year at No. 3 before taking over the top spot the next two polls.
No. 4 Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams receiving votes in the USCHO poll, joining No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 5 Minnesota, No. 10 Penn State, No. 12 Michigan and No. 14 Wisconsin.
In this week’s USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, the Buckeyes are ranked fourth. Ohio State started the year No. 2 and was ranked first the last two weeks.
No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 5 Minnesota, No. 9 Penn State, No. 12 Michigan and No. 13 Wisconsin join Ohio State in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Buckeyes vs. Falcons
Ohio State and Bowling Green, former Central Collegiate Hockey Association foes, have met 182 times since 1966. The Buckeyes lead the series in Columbus, 44-37-3, and the Falcons have the edge at home, 58-29-6. In the last 10 meetings, Ohio State is ahead, 5-4-1.
The teams last met Oct. 21-22, 2016 in a home-and-home series. Ohio State captured game one 5-4 on the road and won game two at home, 6-1.
Bowling Green plays Western Michigan Tuesday before the series with the Buckeyes.
No. 37
Sophomore goalie Tommy Nappier tied his career high with 35 saves in the win over UMass Saturday, allowing just one goal. The goal he allowed in the first period ended his individual shutout streak at 195:32, the second-longest streak in program history. It is behind only the 197:06 streak by Christian Frey Dec. 18, 2015-Jan. 9, 2016.

Back-to-Back
After not scoring a penalty shot goal since 1999, the Buckeyes converted in back-to-back games. Mason Jobst scored vs. Arizona State Oct. 13 and Carson Meyer tallied Friday vs. UMass.

Weekend Flashback
The Buckeyes split a home series with UMass over the weekend. The Minutemen won the opener, 6-3, before the Buckeyes captured the second game, 3-1.

Junior Tanner Laczynski led the Buckeyes with three points in the series, while classmate Carson Meyer had two goals. Freshman Ryan O’Connell had a team-high four blocked shots.

Game One – UMass 6, Ohio State 3 (Full Wrapup)
The Buckeyes fell behind 3-0, with UMass scoring at 10:17 and 14:28 (power play) of the first and 6:19 of the second. Carson Meyer then scored back-to-back goals for the Buckeyes for a one-goal game at 18:22 of the second. The Minutemen pushed ahead 4-2 at 8:00 of the third with a power play tally but Ohio State answered 1:09 later to again get within one. UMass converted a 2-on-1 at 15:43 of the third and Ohio State pulled its goalie early down by two, with the Minutemen scoring an empty netter at 16:56 for the final tally.
Ohio State outshot UMass, 38-27, in the game, including 29-15 in the second and third periods combined.
Game Two – Ohio State 3, UMass 1 (Full Wrapup)
The Buckeyes and Minutemen scored 13 seconds apart in the first period. UMass took the lead at 6:00 and Ohio State responded at 6:13, with Tanner Laczynski scoring. The teams combined for 35 shots in the second period (UMass 18, Ohio State 17), but the goalies held strong. With time winding down in the third and the teams skating 4×4, Wyatt Ege carried the puck into the UMass zone. He passed to Laczynski in the slot, who chipped the puck over the UMass goalie with 1:22 left in regulation for the eventual gamewinner. Mason Jobst sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:12. Tommy Nappier made 11 of his 35 saves in the third period.
