COLUMBUS, Ohio –Freshman goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
This weekend, Hernandez started in the Buckeyes’ two shutouts, picking up her third shutout of the season against Kent State. Hernandez ranks seventh in the Big Ten with 43 saves on the season and is third in the conference among freshmen goalkeepers. She has recorded the second highest number of shutouts in the conference (3) and is third in goals against average (1.27).
In her first season donning the Scarlet and Gray, Hernandez’s single-game record of saves is nine against Maryland.
The last Freshman of the Week honor for Ohio State was Esther Clotet during the 2016 season.
The Buckeyes will play their final regular season opponents this weekend as they host Michigan State on Friday (3 p.m.) and face Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday (noon).
