COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 seeded Ohio State field hockey team (8-9, 3-5 Big Ten) upset No. 2 seeded Maryland (10-9, 5-3 Big Ten), 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday.

Game Recap

Maryland largely dominated possession in the first quarter, but Maddie Stevens made two saves to keep the Terrapins off the board.
A little over three and a half minutes into the second quarter, the Buckeyes converted on a penalty corner. Anne Marie Krebs scored, assisted by Makenna Webster, to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead.
Stevens made a huge save, laying out and keeping the ball out with her stick, to keep the Buckeyes in the lead, 1-0, going into halftime.
Just under four and a half minutes into the third quarter, Maryland tied the score, 1-1.
Less than 10 minutes later, Katie Fichtner scored a second-chance goal to put the Buckeyes back in the lead, 2-1, over the No. 11 ranked team in the country.
The Buckeyes dominated the fourth quarter, holding Maryland to just one shot, and they came away with the 2-1 upset win.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

This is the Buckeyes' second victory over the Terrapins this season. Ohio State also upset Maryland, who was also ranked No. 11 at the time, 2-1, in overtime at Buckeye Varsity Field on Oct. 3.
Fichtner's goal is her fifth of the season and Krebs' goal is her third of the season.
Webster notched her seventh assist, which leads the team.
Stevens (8-9) made three saves.
