COLUMBUS, Ohio — The first day of three is in the books for the US Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Nationals host by Ohio State this weekend. The Buckeyes had an eventful showing in the preliminary rounds for the solo, duet, and trio competitions.
The day was off to a great start as Ohio State entered two pairs for the duet prelims. Emma Baranski and Elizabeth Davidson scored an 83.5333 while Alyssa Hoying and Monica Velazquez-Stiak posted a score of 83.4333. The Buckeyes qualified for Saturday’s final duet competition and both duos are heading into the finals competition among the top three scores of the day.
Ohio State’s National Champion, Emma Baranski, did not miss a beat in her solo routine during the preliminary round. Her outstanding score of an 85.0000 was good enough to qualify for the finals on Saturday as she leads the pack in the event. The day ended on a positive note with the trio competition. The Buckeye’s trio routine featured Lorraine Hack, Alyssa Hoying, and Monica Velasquez-Stiak as they had a stellar performance bringing in a score of 83.6667. They will head into Saturday’s finals competition as a team to watch.
The Buckeyes will return to the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Friday morning for the 2nd day of the US Collegiate National Championships and will compete in both the Technical and Team preliminary rounds.
