Indianapolis, Ind.— The 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are underway in Indianapolis, with the 800 freestyle relay being contested on Wednesday evening.
Ohio State’s relay foursome of Josh Fleagle, Brayden Seal, Andrew Loy, and Andrew Appleby combined for a time of 6:20.37. All four Buckeyes had 200 free splits faster than 1:36.00. The fastest was Appleby, who put up a time of 1:33.97 as the final swimmer, over four seconds faster than his previous season-best 200 free time this year. Fleagle (1:35.36), Loy (1:35.82), and Seal (1:35.22) all had similarly good performances on the opening day of NCAA’s, with Seal posting a season-best 200 freestyle time as well.
Tomorrow, Thursday, will be the first full day of the championship meet, with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET and finals picking back up at 6:00 p.m. ET. The following events will be contested: 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, and one-meter diving.
