Elizabeth Davidson is a three-time All-American on the synchronized swimming team. She helped lead the team to a national championship in 2015 and the won an individual national title in the technical event in 2016. A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Davidson studied abroad in Hungary this past spring and recently completed an internship with Bucks Go Pro.
What was your favorite part of Bucks Go Pro?
Meeting student-athletes from different sports and working with them in a professional environment.
What is the best piece of advice you received from BGP?
It’s never too early to start thinking about finances.
Which site visit did you enjoy the most?
I really enjoyed Worthington Industries because we got a lot of good feedback from former student-athletes.
What was your group project, and what was your role in it?
I was part of the Fall 2016 edition of the quarterly magazine, Seasons Pass. I created the survey for the interns, wrote some of the stories, and sort helped wherever necessary.
How did you decide to come to OSU?
I knew I wanted to do synchro in college and OSU was the best choice.
How long have you been doing your sport?
I started when I was six years old, so about 15 years!
Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals?
Before every swim through, my throat gets really dry so I have to drink a ton of water. I always bring my bottle over to the ready area, and normally I’m the only one who does so my teammates drink from it, too.
What is your favorite part about your sport?
Performing in front of friends and family is a lot of fun.
What is the hardest thing about sport?
Having to do physically demanding tasks while not being able to breathe.
How do you balance athletics and academics?
Practice is normally in the early mornings and we’re always done before noon. So after that, my focus is mainly on schoolwork, although sometimes that balance is tricky.
Why did you choose your major?
I want to translate (hopefully for the FBI), and Russian is a critical language, so I am majoring in Russian. I also wanted to do something that could be used on a broader scope, so I added a Strategic Communication major too. I was a Linguistics major at first, and didn’t want to completely let go of it so I added a Linguistics minor.
What is your favorite study spot on campus?
It’s technically off campus, but I always do my best studying while laying in bed.
What is your favorite class you have taken here so far?
Any Russian language class, and Crisis Communication with Lanier Holt.
What is a fun fact about you that not many people know about?
I’m half Mexican (from my mom’s side of the family, so based on my name and appearance nobody can tell).
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tacos.
Who do you most admire and why?
My mom because she works really hard to give my sister and me the best in everything. (She’s also a fan of tough love, and if I didn’t choose her I’d be feeling that right about now.)
Describe OSU in one word.
Opportunity-filled. (does that count as two?)
