NAPA, Calif. – All five Buckeyes concluded Day One of the 2016 Silverado Showdown within one stroke of each other. The balanced effort resulted in a T-9th standing with 36 holes to play over the next two days. Ohio State carded a 13-over total of 301 in the 18-team tournament.
Katja Pogacar, Niki Schroeder and Rio Watanabe each shot 3-over 75’s and are among a large group tied in 36th place. At 4-over (76), Jaclyn Lee and Jessica Porvasnik settled in 10 slots back with shares of 46th place out of 93 total players.
Pogacar, competing in her first event as a Golfstat Top-100 player (ranked No. 98 nationally), birdied Hole No. 18 after starting the round on Hole No. 10. From there, she played at even par for the final nine holes. Schroeder rebounded from five consecutive bogies on Holes No. 13-17 by firing 2-under over the remaining 10 holes, including a round-ending birdie on the final one. Watanabe was even through 15 holes before stumbling a bit down the stretch with bogies on the last three holes.
Lee embarked on the least dramatic journey around the course with a team-high 14 pars. Porvasnik, meanwhile, witnessed back-to-back birdies on Holes No. 5-6 quickly erased by a Hole No. 8 double bogey.
