GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Both the Scarlet and Gray squads for the Ohio State synchronized swimming team advanced to the finals at the US Collegiate Championships on Friday evening.
The Scarlet team, which consisted of Morgan Boneberg, Elizabeth Davidson, Wenjing Deng, Lorraine Hack, Alyssa Hoying, Noelle St. John, Stephanie Thielemann and Monica Velazquez-Stiak, qualified first with a score of 83.6667. The Gray squad qualified third with a score of 80.8667. Members of the Gray team include Alexa Aton, Tori Baron, Renee Collett, Jessica Giannuzzi, Sarah House, Natalie Huibregtse, Alex Meredith-Le Roux and Jasmine Pulido.
The Buckeyes also had a very good showing in the technical competitions on Friday. OSU took five of the top six spots in the A figures and Thielemann made it a complete sweep this season as she won the B Figures.
Davidson took first in the A figures with a 74.2951 while Boneberg followed in second (74.0938), Baranski in third (73.9063) and Velazquez-Stiak in fourth (73.8785). Hoying posted a sixth place finish and Deng rounded-out the top-10.
Thielemann, who notched a score of 68.1333, won the B Figures every time she competed in the event this year. Jessica Giannuzzi finished fifth in event with a 64.7999.
Saturday’s finals will start at 9:30 a.m. with the trio finals. TakeItLive.com will have live video of all of Saturday’s action beginning at 8:30 a.m.
