Junior forward Jae’Sean Tate is one of 20 players nationally to earn a spot on the 2017 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award preseason watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
Tate is among the Buckeyes’ Top six returning scorers from last season at 11.7 points per game. He is tied with classmate Keita Bates-Diop as the top returning rebounder as well with 6.4 boards a contest.
After sustaining a shoulder injury late in the 2015-16 campaign, Tate missed the final seven games to concentrate in rehabilitation. He is practicing without limitations as the Buckeyes prepare for the open of the 2016-17 season.
Tate and senior Marc Loving on are pace to reach 1,000 career points this season. Loving needs just 55 points while Tate needs 364. As a freshman, Tate scored 308 points and followed that effort with 328 in an injury-shortened sophomore season. Loving tallied 490 points last year as junior
Ohio State takes on Walsh College in an exhibition game Nov. 6 (4 p.m./BTN Plus) at Value City Arena in Columbus before opening the season officially at Navy Nov. 11 (9 p.m./CBSSN) in the Veteran’s Classic.
The Buckeyes will open the season at home Nov. 11 vs. North Carolina Central (9 p.m./ESPNU).
