CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –The No. 23 Ohio State University women’s golf team got off to a hot start at the Tar Heel Invitational, firing a 5-under 283 to settle in at second place after Round One. The Buckeyes trail No. 26 Wake Forest (-6) by a lone stroke and finished the afternoon ahead of five Top-20 foes, including top-ranked Alabama (-3).
Northeast Ohio was well-represented in the event’s first 18 holes as Niki Schroeder (Avon Lake) and Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley) paved the way with scores of 68 and 70, respectively. Schroeder dropped in a tournament-best six birdies, recording three on both the ‘front’ and ‘back’ 9’s. Porvasnik added three birdies to the team total of 19, pacing all squads.
