COLUMBUS, Ohio – An ATP tennis event is coming to Columbus later this month. Ohio State will play host to the Columbus Challenger which runs Sept. 19-27.
All of the matches are open to the public and admission and parking will be free throughout week. Each match will take place at the Ohio State Varsity Tennis Center on Henderson Road just north of campus.
The event will have a distinct college feel not just because of being hosted on a college campus but many of the players are former top collegiate stars. Ohio State will be well represented in the event as NCAA Champions Blaz Rola and Chase Buchanan will be joined in the main draw by former All-Big Ten first-teamer Connor Smith. Three-time All-American Peter Kobelt is an alternate.
“I am excited that Ohio State is hosting this Columbus Challenger and I have no doubt it will help Buckeye tennis for years to come,” said Ohio State Director of Tennis Ty Tucker. “It shows such a commitment to the tennis program from Ohio State Vice President/Athletics Director Gene Smith and the entire Athletics Department. The city of Columbus will be treated to world class professional tennis. The draw consists of players that have made over a million dollars in career prize money as well as stars of tomorrow.”
