COLUMBUS, Ohio – Joshua Perry, Ohio State’s leading tackler in 2014 and who tops the charts again after two games this season – he and LB Raekwon McMillan lead with 15 tackles – has earned another honor for his off-the-field efforts: today he was named to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Only 11 student-athletes from Football Bowl Subdivision schools are selected for making a “positive impact on others and their communities.” The American Football Coaches Association is a sponsor.
Perry was named last week one of 30 candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in college football. To be eligible, seniors must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
And he has also been named a candidate for the Lott IMPACT Award, a national award that honors athletic ability as well as the character attributes of integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.
On the playing field, Perry is on the watch list for both the Butkus Award as the nation’s outstanding linebacker and the Bednarik Award as the defensive player of the year.
In its 24th year, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® is comprised of athletes who have used their limited free time to perform inspirational acts of service. This summer, the program received an all-time record high 197 nominations from colleges and universities across the country.
“Allstate is proud to continue the legacy of recognizing student-athletes for their role in making a positive impact in their local communities,” said Pam Hollander, vice president of marketing for Allstate. “The ‘good works’ of these individuals is an inspiration to us all and we are thrilled to recognize another team of young men that are truly making a difference both on and off the football field.”
