ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Ohio State University women’s golf team sits in the top half of the highly-competitive Dick McGuire Invitational after Day One. The Buckeyes carded a 36-hole total of 592 (+8) and are slotted eighth out of 18 schools heading into Tuesday’s final round. Eleven teams entered the tournament ranked in the Golfweek Top-40, including No. 33 Ohio State.
Niki Schroeder and Rio Watanabe have each put themselves in contention for individual top-25 finishes amongst the 100-plus-player field. Both Buckeyes ended the day at 2-over, totaling 148 strokes. Schroeder was the more consistent of the two with tallies of 73-75 while Watanabe rebounded from an opening-round 77 to dip under par at 71 in round number two. Schroeder, competing in her first career collegiate event, posted seven birdies, one off the pace of team leader Watanabe and her eight birdies.
Seven of Watanabe’s team-leading eight birdies came in the second round, firing the team’s best round at 2-under (71). As a team, Ohio State ranked fourth with 30 total birdies.

Junior teammates Jessica Porvasnik and Katja Pogacar came in next for the Scarlet & Gray. Porvasnik registered scores of 76-74 (+4) for a share of 44th place. Pogacar wasn’t far behind after putting forth a 5-over effort (73-78) and grabbing a piece of 48th place.
Zoe-Beth Brake recorded the team’s second lowest round overall with an even-par 73 during her second trip around the course. The redshirt junior is tied for 51st with a two-round sum of 152 (79-73; +6). In addition, Lina Aguillon is competing as an individual and went 85-78 (+17).
