Martin Joyce Named National High School Boys POY – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State incoming freshman Martin Joyce was named the National Boys High School Player of the Year by the National High School Tennis Association.
Joyce led Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Ill., to its fourth-straight state championship this spring and individually, he claimed his second singles title. During his run to the state title, Joyce dropped just one set and claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Gianni Ross in the finals.
The 6-3 right-hander, who is ranked No. 4 in the class of 2015 according to TennisRPI, had a tremendous career at Hinsdale. In addition to leading the Red Devils to four team titles, Joyce finished fourth in singles as a freshman, won the title as a sophomore with a 33-1 record, finished runner-up as a junior and then capped his career with another title this spring. He accumulated a 165-5 record over his four years at Hinsdale and won an impressive 107 of his last 108 matches.
Outside of his dominance at Hinsdale, Joyce has also had plenty of success in USTA tournaments this year. He won the USTA National Selection Tournament and notched runner-up finishes at the USTA Midwest L1 Indoor Closed and USTA Midwest Outdoor Closed Championships. His most recent title came at the U.S. Open Playoff Midwest Sectional which qualified him for the U.S. Open National Playoff and a chance at a wildcard berth in the 2015 US Open.
In addition to claiming National High School Player of the Year honors, Joyce was also named the 2015 National High School Coaches Association Boy’s Tennis Athlete of the Year. He is part of the No. 8 recruiting class in the country according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. The class also includes Kyle Seelig, Hunter Tubert and Alex Kobelt.
