COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State has moved up to fourth in the second set of Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup spring standings released Thursday. With a national championship in rowing and a 25th-place finish in women’s golf, the Buckeyes moved up a spot from the first spring standings two weeks ago.
Stanford currently leads the standings followed by North Carolina, UCLA, Ohio State and USC.
The Buckeye rowing team became the first team in NCAA history to win three-consecutive national titles when it claimed an individual national title in the first varsity eight, a runner-up finish in the second varsity eight and a fifth-place finish in the first varsity four May 31 in Gold River, Calif. Ohio State tallied 126 points at the national regatta, defeating No. 2 California and top-ranked Brown.
The women’s golf team narrowly missed the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships after earning a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Raleigh Regional. Katja Pogacar was the Buckeyes’ best performer at the regional, tallying a 12th-place finish with a 5-over 221 while Rio Watanabe tied for 18th at 7-over.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
Ten spring Division I championships have been completed and the next Division I spring standings will be released June 16.
