Buckeyes Battling for Advancing Top-6 Slot at NCAA Raleigh Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

RALEIGH, N.C. – Ohio State is among a seven-team cluster separated by just seven strokes from top to bottom ranging from third-place LSU (+16) to ninth-place UCF (+23). The Buckeyes enter Saturday’s NCAA Raleigh Regional final round tied for the coveted sixth slot as the top-6 schools advance to the NCAA Championships in Bradenton, Fla., (May 22-27).
Round number two had a beautiful beginning when Rio Watanabe dropped in an eagle on her very first hole of the day. Ohio State remained in the hunt for the top spot at the turn, posting a team total of 1-over through nine holes. Little variance occurred Holes 10-13 before the Buckeye struggles began on the 14th. During the final five holes of the course, Ohio State combined to shoot 14-over and wound up 16-over on the day.
Watanabe’s 2-over 74 was tops on the team in the second round while her 147 (+3) total is second-best and good for a share of 14th place overall in the 96-player field. Katja Pogacar has been the top Buckeye performer over the course of 36 holes, carding rounds of 71-75. At 2-over with 18 holes to go, she is tied for 10th place on the individual leaderboard.
Jessica Porvasnik is next up for the Scarlet & Gray, rattling off tallies of 72-77 for a piece of 25th place. Senior co-captains Jan Chapalangsri and Claudia Lim are representing Buckeye Nation as well, both ranking in the 60s thus far. Chanpalangsri owns scores of 77-78 (+11) and Lim has come in at 76-80 (+12).
