Buckeyes Finish Seventh in NCAA Raleigh Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

RALEIGH, N.C. – Ohio State came up a lone slot short from advancing to the 2015 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. The Buckeyes placed seventh in the NCAA Raleigh Regional where the top six schools moved on to the next stage.
Ohio State concluded the 54-hole event at 32-over, four strokes back from sixth-place Campbell University (+28). The Buckeyes entered Sunday’s final round tied for sixth before a 12-over effort put an end to the 2014-15 season.
Big Ten sistren Ohio State and Northwestern ironically played best on the course’s `big’ holes, each recording a tally of 2-over on all Par 5s combined to pace the entire field.
Sophomore Katja Pogacar was Ohio State’s top performer from start to finish in Raleigh. She opened by firing a 71 on Thursday followed by back-to-back 75s. Her 221 total (+5) earned a share of 12th place overall among 96 players.
Rio Watanabe joined Pogacar in the top-20, tying for 18th on the individual leaderboard. The redshirt freshman posted scores of 73-74-76 (+7) in her first career NCAA postseason competition.
Jessica Porvasnik contributed to the team tally each day, opening with an even-par 72 in the first round. She carded subsequent rounds of 77-76 to grab a piece of 30th overall.
Jan Chanpalangsri made a huge jump on Sunday, ascending 20 slots on the strength of a final round 73. She climbed from 63rd place up into a tie for 43rd by day’s end. Fellow senior co-captain Claudia Lim put forth 76s in the first and third rounds, flanking an 80 in the second stanza.
