Highlights from the past week in Ohio State Athletics
Women’s Rowing
- The women’s rowing team swept the Big Ten’s year-end individual honors as voted on by the conference coaches, the league announced Wednesday. Ashley Bauer was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year and Sarah Davis Freshman of the Year, while head coach Andy Teitelbaum collected his third-consecutive Coach of the Year honor.
Men’s Tennis
- Junior Chris Diaz won a thrilling three-set match in the opening round of NCAA singles championship on Wednesday to put him on the brink of All-American status. Diaz downed Virginia Tech’s Andreas Bjerrehus 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6) to advance to the round of 32.
Wrestling
- Kyle Snyder, a freshman on the wrestling team last season, helped the United States defeat Cuba, 9-4, at the Beat the Streets “Salsa in the Square” Thursday in Times Square (New York City). Snyder topped 2014 World bronze medalist Javier Cortina, 4-0.
- Logan Stieber’s path to the Olympics Trials will go through Columbus. The four-time NCAA national champion, who just two weeks ago graduated from Ohio State, will remain in the Buckeye State as he’s signed with Columbus-based Ohio Regional Training Center (Ohio RTC).
Men’s Lacrosse
- Senior Jesse King, junior Robby Haus and redshirt sophomore Tom Carey of the men’s lacrosse were named USILA All-Americans, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced Thursday. King and Haus were third team selections, while Carey earned honorable mention accolades.
Football
- Learning about life after football doesn’t get any better than this: on Tuesday, 14 members of the Ohio State football team visited the 2-million-square-foot offices of JPMorgan Chase & Co.
- The Buckeye representatives – all of them majoring in or having an interest in financial planning, finance or accounting with one future engineer in the group as well – included Kyle Berger, Joe Burger, Jalyn Holmes, Cardale Jones, Evan Lisle, Donovan Munger, Sean Nuernberger, Tracy Sprinkle, Logan Gaskey, Joe Ramstetter, Darius Slade, Jacoby Boren, Raekwon McMillan and Ron Tanner.
