Wetzel, Meyer Awarded Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tim Wetzel, a former member of the Ohio State baseball team, and Chloe Meyer of the women’s rowing team were announced as recipients of Big Ten postgraduate scholarships, the conference office announced Thursday. One male and one female student-athlete from each Big Ten institution who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree program were awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based on primarily academic achievements.
Wetzel, a native of Mayfield, Ohio, was a four-year starter for the Buckeyes from 2011-14. The OSU outfielder collected 204 career starts, tallying 21 doubles, four triples and five home runs. A three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Wetzel scored 103 runs and drove in 84 to go along with 30 stolen bases.
Meyer, from West Chester, Ohio, is a two-time NCAA event champion and two-time team champion with the women’s rowing team, along with a three-time Big Ten event champion and two-time Big Ten team champion. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and was a Big Ten Medal of Honor finalist.
The scholarship will be used to pay expenses of the student’s postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching, as well as other expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, required course-related supplies and books. In order to retain the scholarship, the recipient must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program within three years from the fall semester after selection.
Selected student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point-average, demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program.
