COLUMBUS, Ohio – The top of the 2015 Lady Buckeye Invitational’s final individual leaderboard is peppered with Ohio State student-athletes as six of seven Buckeyes competing placed in the top-17 of 75 players in the field. Ohio State earned runner-up honors as a team, finishing three strokes back from the tournament champion Kent State Golden Flashes.
The Ohio State lineup dropped in 39 birdies on the weekend, most of all 12 schools. Rio Watanabe was responsible for 11 of them, torching the Scarlet Course for the second-most birdies of all players. Katja Pogacar (10 birdies) and Claudia Lim (nine birdies) were amongst the top-5 birdie-compilers as well.
Sophomore Jessica Porvasnik proved to be the top OSU performer overall, however. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year carded rounds of 74-75-72 to grab a share of fifth place at 5-over (221). She consistently met par, racking up an event-high 42 pars over the course of 54 holes.
Pogacar and Watanabe joined Porvasnik in the top-10, placing eighth and ninth, respectively. Pogacar excelled on the Par 3s, dipping two shots under on such holes (tied for best in the field). She went 73-75-74 while Watanabe registered tallies of 75-72-76.
Senior captains Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim both tied for 12th at 10-over (226). Chanpalangsri put forth scores of 76-71-79 and Lim submitted rounds of 78-72-76. Playing as an individual, Zoe-Beth Brake made it six Buckeyes up in the top-17. She bookended a second round 80 with much lower scores of 74 and 73 to ascend into a tie for 16th place overall (+11).
