D’Angelo Russell Named a Jerry West Award Finalist – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -Ohio State freshman D’Angelo Russell has been named a finalist for the Jerry West Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. The award is given to the best shooting guard in college basketball. Other finalists for the award are Tyler Haws of Brigham Young, Jerian Grant of Notre Dame, Buddy Hield of Oklahoma and Ron Baker of Wichita State.
Russell, the leading freshman scorer in the country at 19.2 points per game, also leads the Buckeyes with 5.6 rebounds per game and sits second on the team with 5.2 assists per contest. The Louisville, Ky., native has scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games, including the last 29. Russell has been named Big Ten Player of the Week twice and conference Freshman of the Week seven times.
The winners of the Basketball Hall of Fame college basketball awards will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Hall of Fame’s selection committees. The winners of the inaugural awards will be awarded at ESPN’s new College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy’s from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Calif., Friday, April 10. The Awards will be televised live on ESPN2 at 8:00pm ET.
