OSU Finishes Second At North Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

BROWN DEER, Wisc. – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team completed its final tune-up for the U.S. Collegiate National Championships this weekend with a runner-up finish at the North Regional Championship in Brown Deer, Wisc.
The Buckeyes finished with an overall team score of 92 which was second to Lindenwood’s 98 points.
“Unfortunately, we had some key synchronization errors in our Friday events, which put us behind going into the final day of competition,” said Ohio State head coach Holly Vargo Brown. “But, I’m very proud of the way we regrouped for Saturday’s team event, definitely showcasing our strengths and highlighting the depth of our program. We are in a great place in our preparation for the national championships.”
OSU Scarlett team of Emma Baranski, Morgan Boneberg, Elizabeth Davidson, Lorraine Hack, Katie Spada, Noelle St. John, Monica Velazquez-Stiak and Khadija Zanotto won the team routine with a score of 86.8000. The Buckeyes’ Gray squad also finished third in the event.
In the solo routine, Emma Baranski received a score of 85.2333 and finished second while Elizabeth Davidson was right behind her in third place at 82.6667. Hack and Hoying turned in their second-highest score of the season of 84.9333 in the duet competition to take second in that event. Cory Justice and Heidi Liou finished sixth at 78.7667 while Samantha Golumb and Emily Muma took seventh with a score of 77.2000.
Lindenwood took the top two spots in the trio competition but Baranski, Davidson, Zanotto (83.0000) and Hack, Hoying, Velazquez-Stiak (82.9333) took third and fourth.
In the technical competitions, Velazquez-Stiak and Baranski were second and third in the A Figures while Jessica Giannuzzi and Alexa Aton went 1-2 in the B Figures.
The Buckeyes will now have two weekends off before hosting the U.S. Collegiate Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The competition is slated to get underway on Thursday, March 26 and run through Saturday, March 28.
