COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team completed action on day two of the U.S. Collegiate National Championship at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and heads into Saturday’s finals with a full head of steam. The Buckeyes are looking for their 29th national title.
The Ohio State Scarlet team of Emma Baranski, Morgan Boneberg, Elizabeth Davidson, Lorraine Hack, Katie Spada, Noelle St. John, Monica Velazquez-Stiak and Khadija Zanotto posted the highest score of the day in the team prelims with an 88.2667.
The OSU Gray team also had a solid performance, posting an 84.9333 to qualify fourth. Members of that team include Jessica Giannuzzi, Samantha Golomb, Sarah House, Natalie Huibregtse, Kristine Irwin, Cory Justice, Heidi Liou, and Emily Muma.
The slate is wiped clean for the finals on Saturday afternoon. The Gray squad drew the ninth position for the team finals while the Scarlet team drew the final routine on Saturday.
The Buckeyes also fared well in the technical competitions which started Friday morning. Five Buckeyes finished in the top-10 of the Figures A competition led by Baranski who finished second with a 78.7985. Velazquez-Stiak was third (78.4757) and Hack was fourth (78.3785). Boneberg came in eighth at 76.9063 while Davidson checked-in 10th with a score of (76.6285).
Freshman Jessica Giannuzzi posted a score of 70.6247 to finish second in the Figures B competition. Sophomore Sarah House came in fifth at 68.8589.
Saturday’s finals will begin at 9:25 a.m. In addition to the Scarlett and Gray squads in the team finals, the Buckeyes have two trios in the finals along with one duet and Baranski competing in the solo finals.
