OSU Off To Solid Start At US Collegiate National Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State is hosting the U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming National Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on campus this weekend and day one goes down as successful. Every Buckeye competing in Thursday’s prelims of the solo, duet and trio competitions advanced to Saturday’s finals.
Sophomore Emma Baranski started the day with a very nice solo performance, scoring 87.1667. That was good enough to qualify second and move her onto Saturday. Fellow sophomore Alexa Aton got her first taste of the national spotlight and scored 75.9333 in an honorary solo routine.
The Buckeye duet of sophomore Lorraine Hack and freshman Alyssa Hoying also qualified second with a score of 83.8667. Their score was just 2.7333 behind Lindenwood’s top pair of Mary Killman and Vasilisa Mironova. Heidi Liou and Cory Justice notched a score of 77.7667 in their honorary routine.
In the trio competition, Baranski, sophomore Elizabeth Davidson and senior captain Khadija Zanotto scored a very solid 84.2667 and qualified in second place. Hack, Hoying and Monica Velasquez-Stiak were not far behind in fifth with an 83.9333, which was their second-best score of the year. Victoria Baron, Sarah House and Natalie Huibregtse received a 77.9667 for their honorary routine.
Day two action on Friday will feature Figure A,B,C and D competitions beginning at 9:35 a.m. The team prelims will begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening. Saturday’s finals will being with the opening ceremony at 9:25 a.m. followed by the trio finals at 9:50 a.m.
In its 38-year history, the Buckeyes have won 28 U.S. Collegiate Championship titles, capturing the title in four of the last six years.
