Ohio State Welcomes Kuwait National Guard Sports Union – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State is proud to welcome the Kuwait National Guard Sports Union to Columbus this week. In a first-time partnership with US military, the KNG Sports Union is visiting campus as they tour facilities, attend practices and games and meet with various department staff. The purpose of the visit is to gain insight and information on the ongoing processes of a successful athletics program.
The Kuwait National Guard is the country’s internal security force, created to develop the best athletes in the country to train and compete in Olympic level international events.
KNG currently has programs dedicated to basketball, volleyball, soccer, water polo, team handball, track and field, weightlifting, swimming and diving, table tennis and squash.
Throughout their visit, the KNG Sports Union will be led by Commander LTC Saleh Al-Aizmi, Deputy and Competition Chief Saleh Alboraki and Facilities and Equipment Chief Major Saleh Alfrefaie. Al-Aizmi and Alboraki are former Kuwait athletes, a long jumper and soccer player, respectively.
On Wednesday, the group went on a tour of Ohio Stadium and Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to attend track practice. Following their afternoon session, KNG attended the baseball game at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
Thursday is the group’s final day at Ohio State. KNG will tour the Woody Hayes Athletic Center where they will attend both football and soccer practice. KNG will conclude their visit by attending the OHSAA State High School Basketball Championships.
