Russell Earns Seventh Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honor – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week along with Maryland guard Melo Trimble, the conference office announced Monday. The award is Russell’s seventh Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor to go along with a pair of Big Ten Player of the Week awards.
Russell, a guard from Louisville, Ky., averaged 19.0 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Buckeyes defeated Nebraska and Purdue last week to improve to 21-8 on the year, 10-6 in Big Ten play. After tallying 11 points, six assists and three boards in 26 minutes of an 81-57 win over Nebraska Thursday, Russell totaled 28 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists in Ohio State’s 65-61 comeback win over Purdue Sunday night.
Russell is the top freshman scorer in the country at 19.0 points per game. He also leads the Buckeyes with 5.8 rebounds per contest and ranks second with 5.3 assists per game.
