COLUMBUS, Ohio-The United States Basketball Writers Association named Ohio State freshman guard D’Angelo Russell to its 2015 First Team All-America squad Monday. Russell leads Ohio State in scoring (638/19.3 ppg.), rebounding (185/5.6 rpg.) and 3-pointers made (90). He is second in assists (168) and steals (53). He led the Big Ten in scoring during the league season (20.3 ppg.) and finished second in all games (19.3 ppg.). The Sporting News also selected Russell to its first team All-America squad last week.
Russell, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, is the third Ohio State freshman to earn USBWA All-America honors. All have been named during Thad Matta’s tenure in Columbus. Greg Oden earned first team recognition in 2007 followed by Jared Sullinger in 2011.
