Logan Stieber, wrestling
- Stieber, competing in his final home dual meet in the Scarlet and Gray, led throughout against fourth-ranked Nick Dardanes of Minnesota, fending off a late rally from Dardanes to hold on for a 10-9 victory. Stieber, now 19-0 on the year and 109-3 in his career, gave Ohio State a 10-0 lead through three matches with the win.
Katie Borchers, track and field
- Borchers broke her own school indoor record in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. The new record time -2:05.56 – helped Borchers to a win in her heat, third place overall and the top time among collegiate runners in the event, which featured 82 competitors.
No. 4 Wrestling (12-3, 8-1 B1G)
- On a night when the Buckeyes honored 10 seniors, wins by a pair of freshmen – and Stieber – propelled fourth-ranked Ohio State to a 22-13 victory over third-ranked Minnesota in front of 5,642 fans at Value City Arena.
- Friday’s win is the highest-ranked opponent Ohio State has defeated since knocking off No. 2 Iowa, 21-9, on Jan. 20, 2012. Overall, the Buckeyes have defeated four teams currently ranked in the Top 16 – No. 3 Minnesota, No. 5 Penn State, No. 12 Virginia and No. 16 Michigan.
No. 5 Men’s Tennis (9-1, 0-0 B1G)
- Coach Ty Tucker’s Buckeyes won their 200th-consecutive home match on Sunday, taking down the South Florida Bulls 4-0 and extending the already-held NCAA all-time varsity sport home win streak record.
No. 12 Men’s Volleyball (8-2, 4-0 MIVA)
- Head coach Pete Hanson picked up the 600th win of his career as the Buckeyes swept Lindenwood University 25-20, 25-22, 25-15.
- Hanson boasts an overall record of 600-323 at OSU, including an 8-2 mark thus far in 2015. Additional milestones will be reached with the next Buckeye victory, resulting in the 1,000th overall win in program history and the 500th inside St. John Arena.
No. 20 Men’s Basketball (18-6, 7-4 B1G)
- Freshman D’Angelo Russell gave basketball fans something to drool about Sunday with the first triple-double of his career, a 23 point, 11 assist and 11 rebound performance in Ohio State’s 79-60 victory at Rutgers.
- Freshman Jae’Sean Tate added 20 points and freshman Keita Bates-Diop had 14 to help the Buckeyes bounce back from a loss at Purdue for their fourth win in five games.
Women’s Hockey (16-11-3, 11-10-3-1 WCHA)
- Fueled by a nine-point effort from its fourth line, the women’s hockey team completed a series sweep of Minnesota State with a 6-0 win Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio. The line comprised of Bryanna Neuwald, Maggie Rothgery and Katie Matheny contributed four goals and five assists for the Buckeyes.
- In game one, the Buckeyes withstood a late offensive push from Minnesota State to down the Mavericks, 3-2.
Women’s Basketball (16-8, 8-4 B1G)
- Four Buckeyes scored in double-figures as the women’s basketball team outlasted Indiana 78-70 Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena.
- Previously, the Buckeyes’ defense carried them through in a 76-62 victory vs. Michigan State Monday evening in Columbus.
No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse (2-0)
- In its second game of the 2015 season, nine different Buckeyes tallied goals as the women’s lacrosse team posted an 18-5 win over Binghamton Saturday afternoon inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Track & Field
- Along with Borchers, another senior athlete enjoyed a productive weekend for the Buckeye women at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. Chesna Sykes followed up her personal-best 60-meter time of 7.30 in Friday’s semifinal with a winning time of 7.37 in final round competition Saturday.
- On the men’s side, redshirt sophomore Donovan Robertson earned runner-up honors in the 60-meter hurdle finals, equaling his season-best time of 7.76 seconds. Robertson is ranked fifth nationally in the event this season and No. 1 in the Big Ten.
Softball (4-0, 0-0 B1G)
- Junior Jayla Saibene hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the softball team to a season-opening 7-4 victory over Southern Illinois on Friday in Charleston, S.C.
- The Buckeyes registered two more wins on Saturday – vs. UMBC and Southern Illinois – as well as a 10-6 victory on Sunday vs. Charleston Southern to move to 4-0 on the year.
- Ohio State claimed the season-opening Charleston Southern Tournament Championship following the weekend sweep.
No. 22 Women’s Gymnastics
- The women’s gymnastics team topped Rutgers, 194.875-193.800, Sunday afternoon at St. John Arena.
- Earlier in the weekend, the squad earned a 195.650-195.200 road victory over Bowling Green at Anderson Arena.
No. 9 Men’s Swimming and Diving
- Capturing its 11th dual meet win of the season, the men’s swimming and diving team defeated Wright State by a score of 138-78 Saturday afternoon at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
No. 23 Women’s Swimming and Diving
- The women’s swimming and diving team captured a 147-65 win over Wright State Saturday afternoon at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
- The victory, which sealed the Buckeyes’ dual meet record at 11-1 for the season, was earned on Senior Day, as Ohio State celebrated the accomplishments four veterans – Lauren Davis, Taylor Ford, Aliena Schmidtke and Ashley Vance prior to the meet.
Synchronized Swimming
- The Ohio State synchronized swimming team continued its solid start to the season on Saturday by winning the Jessica Beck Memorial Meet with a team score of 91.0. Wheaton came in second (58.0), Michigan was third (35.0) and Stanford took fourth (27.0), while Miami (23.0) and Wright State (10.0) rounded-out the field.
