COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team posted rounds of 289 and 293 on Day One of the Westbrook Spring Invitational, placing the Buckeyes seventh heading into Monday’s final round. Jan Chanpalangsri was Ohio State’s top individual performer with tallies of 70-74 (E) for a share of 13th place.
Chanpalangsri fired a 2-under 70 right out of the gates in the opening round, followed by a 74 in round number two. Rio Watanabe isn’t far behind her teammate, back a lone stroke at 145 (+1) through two rounds. She is tied for 17th place after carding a 72 and 73. Katja Pogacar sits just one shot back from Watanabe at 2-over (73-73) and owns a piece of 24th place with 18 holes to play.
Pogacar excelled on the Par 3s, dipping two strokes under par on the short holes. Her Par 3 scoring ranked as the best in the entire field. Chanpalangsri got it done on Par 5s, burrowing three shots under par and ranking second on such holes. Watanabe, meanwhile, was steady throughout, evidenced by her 29 pars amounting to the second most of all players.
Jessica Povasnik contributed a pair of scores to the team tally as well. She shaved off a stroke between rounds, notching subsequent scores of 74 and 73. Her 3-over 147 total is good for a T-30th placement.
Claudia Lim rounded out the Buckeye lineup while Zoe-Beth Brake competed as an individual. The OSU tandem is tied for 67th and 82nd, respectively.
