PALOS VERDES, Calif. – Led by head coach Therese Hession, the Ohio State women’s golf team completed the 20th edition of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Tuesday afternoon on the par 71, 6,017 yard Palos Verdes Golf Club course in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. The Buckeyes, who have hosted the event since its inception, finished 15th overall in the team standings.
Baylor captured the team title for the first time in program history, setting a tournament record with a three-round total of 11-over 863. UCLA’s Bronte Law was crowned the individual champion after posting a 5-under 208 in the tournament.
Baylor, Southern California and North Carolina earned the lowest combined team score in the Regional Challenge and have garnered an invitation back to next year’s event. At the tournament’s opening banquet, the field – which featured 12 of the 16 teams ranked in the Top 35 – was divided into five teams of three schools.
The Buckeyes were led by seniors Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim who each carded a 4-over 75 in the final round. Chanpalangsri tied for 50th with a three-round total of 15-over 228. Lim who tied with freshman Rio Watanabe with team-high four birdies in the final round of competition, jumped seven spots to tie for 53rd with a three-round score of 229.
Sophomore Katja Pogacar tied for 53rd with Lim after posting a 5-over 76 in the final round. Sophomore Jessica Porvasnik and redshirt sophomore Zoe-Beth Brake tied for 74th, totaling a three-round score of 236.
Watanabe, competing as an individual, scored a team-low score of 2-over 73 in the final round to tie for 53rd with a total of 16-over 229. Junior Lina Aguillon notched a 13-over 84 to add up to a 252 in three rounds.
The Scarlet and Gray will return to the links Feb. 22-23 to compete in the Westbrook Spring Invitational at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.
