Athlete of the Week
- Kyle Culbertson, men’s soccer
- Culbertson, the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, netted the game-winning goal in OT Sunday in a 1-0 Big Ten quarterfinal win against Penn State. He also scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Michigan on Wednesday as the Buckeyes clinched the B1G regular season title.
No. 3 Football (9-0, 5-0 B1G)
- Ezekiel Elliott ran for 114 yards and Big Ten Defensive Player of Week Vonn Bell returned an interception 16 yards for his first career touchdown in the Buckeyes’ 28-14 win over Minnesota Saturday night at Ohio Stadium.
No. 18 Men’s Soccer (12-5-2, 5-2-1 B1G)
- Culbertson scored the game winner in the 1-0 victory over the Nittany Lions in a B1G quarterfinal match on Sunday, extending OSU’s home winning streak to eight games.
- On Wednesday, Ohio State claimed its fourth Big Ten title in school history and first since 2009 with a 3-1 triumph over Michigan.
- Five Buckeyes earned end-of-the-year recognition by the Big Ten Conference: Chris Froschauer (Goalkeeper of the Year/First Team), Liam Doyle, (Defensive Player of the Year/First Team), Culbertson (First Team), Danny Jensen (Second Team) and Abdi Mohamed (All-Freshman Team).
No. 12 Women’s Volleyball (20-6, 9-5 B1G)
- Ohio State earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) decision against Rutgers Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes attacked at a .372 clip while smothering the Scarlet Knights to a .138 hitting percentage.
No. 5 Wrestling
- The season-opening Eastern Michigan Open was full of Scarlet and Gray on Saturday, as seven Buckeyes were crowned champions.
- The list of Ohio State champions was led by seniors Johnni DiJulius and Mark Martin, but followed closely by a young group of Buckeyes that are quickly turning heads. Four of the seven champions were either freshmen or redshirt freshmen, namely Micah Jordan (redshirt freshman), Cody Burcher (redshirt freshman), Jake Ryan (redshirt freshman) and Myles Martin (true freshman). Nick Tavanello also took home the 285 lb. championship with a win over teammate Thomas Haines.
- Nathan Tomasello, who last week opened his redshirt sophomore season by winning at the NWCA All-Star Classic, reached the quarterfinals of the Bill Farrell International Open in New York City, by winning his first two matches at 57 kg. by a combined score of 20-1.
Men’s Basketball (0-0)
- Keita Bates-Diop scored 26 points and Marc Loving added 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 92-82 victory against Walsh in an exhibition contest Sunday at Value City Arena.
No. 7 Rifle
- Ohio State placed fifth at the NCAA Championships Rehearsal Match Saturday at the University of Akron.
- In air rifle, the Buckeyes set a new team record for the third time this season with a score of 2357.
No. 22 Men’s Swimming and Diving
- It was another Friday and another dual meet victory for Ohio State. The Buckeyes defeated Denison 174-112, continuing their strong start to the season.
No. 24 Women’s Swimming and Diving
- Ohio State won its third home meet of the season on Friday, defeating Denison 210.5-85.5.
Fencing
- Four Buckeyes earned medals at the Garret Penn State Open Sunday in University Park, Pa.: Frederick Koch (silver, men’s sabre), Marc-Antoine Blais Belanger (bronze, men’s epee), Alexa Antipas (bronze, women’s sabre) and Eugenia Falqui (bronze, women’s epee).
