COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nick Schilkey, a junior forward on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Schilkey led the Big Ten with three goals and four points last week.
Schilkey, from Marysville, Mich., opened the scoring in the first period both Friday and Saturday against the Lakers. In game two, his second goal came in the second period and he set up a power play goal in the third. He had eight shots in each game and was +1 in game two. Schilkey was also part of the Buckeye penalty kill that was 7-for-7 in the series and blocked three Laker shot attempts.
Schilkey’s three-point night was the third of his career and first since Nov. 29, 2014 at Notre Dame. He leads the Buckeyes with five goals and eight points this season and has three goals, three assists and six points in his last three games combined. This is his first league weekly honor.
Ohio State is off this weekend before hosting Canisius Nov.13-14 in Value City Arena. The series marks the Buckeyes’ last home games until Jan. 15, 2016 vs. Michigan.
