Athletes of the Week
- Michela Paradiso, Women’s Soccer
- The senior scored twice in Ohio State’s regular season finale against Michigan State, then scored on a penalty kick against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals to help lead her team into the semifinals this upcoming Friday.
- Matt McHugh, Men’s Swimming
- McHugh helped lead Ohio State to a 193-98 victory in its first meet of the season on Friday, placing first in four events and posting one of the 10-fastest times in the 100 backstroke (47.77) this season.
No. 23 Men’s Soccer (10-5-2, 4-2-1 B1G)
- The 100th win at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium was a memorable one Saturday night for Ohio State. The Buckeyes earned a 1-0 shutout victory over Maryland to jump into first place in the Big Ten standings.
- Yaw Amankwa scored the lone goal for Ohio State, his second of the season, to lead the team to its sixth consecutive win at home.
Women’s Soccer (11-5-3, 5-4-2 B1G)
- Ohio State won its final regular season game of the season on Wednesday over Michigan State by a score of 2-0, then took down No. 2 seed Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals 2-1.
- Paradiso scored twice to lift the Buckeyes over the Spartans on Senior Day, then converted a penalty kick opportunity in the Wisconsin game to give her three goals for the week.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
- In their first meet of the season, the Buckeyes dispatched Kenyon College 193-98 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday night.
- McHugh and D.J. MacDonald had excellent performances; McHugh placed first in the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay, while MacDonald also was a member of the 200 medley relay team and an individual winner in the 100 and 200 backstroke events.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
- The Buckeyes took care of Kenyon College on Friday night, winning their dual meet 207-88. On Saturday they went to West Lafayette, Ind., for a pair of duals against both Purdue and Notre Dame, leaving with a victory against the Fighting Irish.
- Hannah Thek won three of the four diving events she competed in over the weekend, while Liz Li had a strong weekend as well.
Wrestling
- Ohio State’s Nathan Tomasello competed in the NWCA All-Star Classic over the weekend, facing off against West Virginia’s Zeke Moisey in a rematch of last season’s national championship match. In a 7-1 decision, Tomasello moved his career record against Moisey to 4-0.
Men’s Ice Hockey (1-7, 0-0 B1G)
- The Buckeyes notched their first win of the season over the weekend, defeating Mercyhurst 5-1 to earn a series split.
- Nick Schilkey led the way with three points, including his second multi-goal game of the season, while Matthew Weis and Luke Stork added a goal and an assist apiece.
Women’s Tennis
- The Ohio State women’s tennis team closed out action at the UT Fall Invite hosted by Tennessee on Sunday. Overall the Buckeyes were a combined 10-10 in singles matches and 9-3 in doubles matches during the invite. Olivia Sneed led the team with three wins during the tournament.
No. 10 Women’s Basketball
- In their first action of the season, the Buckeyes took down Ursuline College 113-61 in an exhibition game on Sunday. Ohio State had seven players reach double-figures in scoring, with Ameryst Alston leading the way with 17 points.
