Ohio State Opens 2015-16 Campaign with 76-54 Win over Mount St. Mary’s – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sophomroe Jae’Sean Tate scored a game-high 21 points to go with nine rebounds to lead Ohio State (1-0) to a 76-54 win over Mount St. Mary’s (0-2) in the season opener for the Buckeyes.
The win was No. 300 for Ohio State under the direction of Thad Matta, now in his 12th season in Columbus. He is the all-time wins leader at Ohio State with a 300-94 record with the Buckeyes. He is 402-125 in his 16-year head coaching career.
A pair of Buckeyes posted their first career double doubles with junior Marc Loving scoring 15 points to go with 11 rebounds. Sophomore Keita Bates-Diop tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds. In all, Ohio State players reached double figures offensively and the team recorded 50 rebounds.
Freshmen JaQuan Lyle, Daniel Giddens and Austin Grandstaff all scored on their first shots as Buckeyes. Four true freshmen saw action and combined to make 10 of 18 shots from the field.
Ohio State scored on 50 percent of its shots from the field (28-56) and 82 percent from the free throw line (14-17). The Buckeye defense held the Mountaineers to 33 percent shooting (21-63) and 28 percent from the 3-point line (7-25). Mount St. Mary’s was outrebounded 50-22.
Matta teams are 12-0 in season openers at Ohio State. He is 16-0 all-time in the first game of the season as a head coach, which includes three seasons at Xavier and one at Butler.
The Buckeyes will have one day of preparation before taking on Grambling (0-1) Tuesday at Value City Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. with the Big Ten Network televising the contest nationally.
