Bailey, Smeathers Sign On to Become Buckeyes – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brooke Bailey and Madison Smeathers have signed National Letters of Intent this week and will join the Ohio State Women’s Volleyball roster for the 2016 season. The pair of High School All-Americans are both slotted in Prep Volleyball’s Top-65 Senior Aces List.
Bailey is a native Buckeye hailing from Canton, Ohio. Smeathers comes to Columbus from Bargersville, Ind., joining current sophomore defensive specialist Kalisha Goree as Indiana products. Both Buckeye signees earned all-state recognition multiple times during their high school careers. Bailey, a six-foot-two outside hitter, competes for Jackson High School and The Academy for Volleyball Cleveland. She picked up First Team All-Ohio honors in each of the past three seasons after corralling both District 4 and Stark County Player of the Year accolades all three years as well. In club ball, Bailey has found much success with the Academy for Volleyball Cleveland, including a 2015 U17 Open AAU National Championship. She was also a member of the 2014 USA Women’s Junior A1 National Team. Prep Volleyball ranks her #61 in their Senior Aces List.

“Brooke’s personality will add a lot to our team dynamic and culture,” Geoff Carlston, Ohio State head coach, said. “She is a tremendous athlete that will add strength to both our outside and right side positions.”
Smeathers is a versatile athlete capable of playing multiple positions. She was tabbed First Team All-Indiana in both 2014 and 2015. Her spot on the All-Johnson County Team spans back to 2012, highlighted by her recent selection as the 2015 Johnson County Player of the Year. The three-time All-Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference performer competes for the Circle City Volleyball Club as well. In addition, Smeathers played on the 2015 USA Women’s Junior A1 National Team and is #58 in the Prep Volleyball Senior Aces List.
