COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team is hosting its 3rd annual Sync Cancer Swim-a-Thon this Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion from 10 a.m. to Noon.
The event is open to everyone who would like to help raise money for the Team Buckeye Peloton. All money raised will go towards the funding of cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Last year, the team raised more than $6,000.
Three years ago, the synchronized swimming team was inspired by Buckeye alum Emily Marsh Fleming’s battle with cancer and decided to put its own spin on the peloton. The team is asking each participant to swim one mile while current members of the team help them along both in and out of the pool. A minimum donation of $25 is asked for the swim and the team’s goal this year is to register at least 100 swimmers. Opportunities are also available to donate through sponsoring a swimmer.
Marsh Fleming was very involved in the Team Buckeye Peloton as she rode in the event three times. Before her passing in March of 2014, she played a big role in helping setup the swim-a-thon as a way of paying-it-forward.
For more information on the swim and how to donate, visit the team’s Peloton page.
