Appold Earns Both Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just six weeks into her collegiate career, Audra Appold has garnered the attention of the Big Ten and been named the conference’s co-Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 5). The freshman hailing from Perrysburg, Ohio, was tabbed as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week as well following her contributions to a pair of Buckeye victories over the weekend.
Appold racked up a match-high 22 kills in Ohio State’s five-set victory over No. 4 Nebraska Saturday evening. She attacked at a .450 clip and added 17 digs for a double-double against the Huskers. Appold blew past her previous career-best mark of 15 kills midway through the third set. Her first attacking error of the night didn’t come until that third frame. For the week, Appold averaged 3.56 kills per set and posted a hitting percentage of .365 (32-9-63).
She got it done defensively, too, recording 2.78 digs per set overall and throwing up three blocks (two solo stuffs) against Iowa.
Appold shares Player of the Week accolades with Purdue’s Annie Drews. This marks Ohio State’s third B1G weekly honor of the season:
