Athletes of the Week
- Sandy Niehaus, Women’s Tennis
- At the ITA Midwest Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., Niehaus defeated the tournament’s top seed to advance to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket. In addition, she advanced to the championship match of the doubles bracket in what will be an all-Ohio State final, guaranteeing the program’s first ITA Midwest Regional doubles title.
- Peanut Johnson, Field Hockey
- Earned the second hat trick of her career on Sunday in Ohio State’s 6-3 win over California on Senior Day.
No. 1 Football (8-0, 4-0 B1G)
- The Buckeyes kept rolling with a 49-7 win over Rutgers on Saturday night. J.T. Barrett accounted for 324 yards of total offense and five touchdowns, earning Big Ten co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Ezekiel Elliott had another strong game with 142 rushing yards and a two touchdowns.
- Head Coach Urban Meyer picked up career win No. 150. He has the highest winning percentage (.852) among active coaches. Meyer also has the best winning percentage among FBS coaches since 2012 (45-3; .938).
No. 6 Women’s Volleyball (19-3, 8-2 B1G)
- Ohio State went 1-1 last week with its victory coming in a matchup against No. 23 Michigan. The Buckeyes won that game in four sets, and for the fourth the eighth time in 10 B1G matches, they held the opposition to a sub-.200 attacking percentage.
- The 16 blocks in the Michigan game tied a season high, half of which came from Tyler Richardson.
No. 18 Men’s Soccer (9-5-2, 3-2-1 B1G)
- A 1-1 week from the Scarlet and Gray started off with a 1-0 win on Wednesday against Cleveland State, which gave the team its eighth consecutive win. Christian Soldat’s goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the game propelled the Buckeyes to victory.
Women’s Ice Hockey (4-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA)
- The Buckeyes swept Minnesota State this past weekend, winning on 5-3 on Friday and 4-0 on Saturday.
- Freshman Lauren Boyle (4 A) and junior Claudia Kepler (2 G, 2 A) each had four-point weekends, while sophomore Alex LaMere recorded her first career shutout on Saturday, stopping all 17 shots that came her way.
Women’s Tennis
- An Ohio State duo will claim the program’s first ITA Midwest Regional doubles title Monday in Ann Arbor. The duos of junior Miho Kowase and sophomore Anna Sanford and juniors Ferny Angeles Paz and Sandy Niehaus each posted two wins Sunday to earn a berth in the championship match. The winning duo will claim a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
- In addition, Niehaus and Angeles Paz both won in the singles round of 16 to advance to Monday’s quarterfinals. Niehaus upset the tournament’s top seed, with Angeles Paz defeating the No. 3 seed.
Men’s Tennis
- Ohio State makes up half of the singles semifinals at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship as senior Chris Diaz and junior Herkko Pollanen each made their way to Monday’s final matches with solid victories on Sunday.
Field Hockey (9-7, 4-3 B1G)
- Peanut Johnson registered the second hat trick of her career in the Buckeyes’ 6-3 win over California on Senior Day. Freshman Courtney Daniels scored her first career goal in Ohio State’s victory.
