PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 18 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team opened the 2015 season with a 194.675-190.825 win at Pittsburgh Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Buckeyes began the meet on uneven bars, notching a 48.275 to beat Pittsburgh’s 47.000. Samantha Kent led the Buckeyes with a 9.700.
Ohio State moved to vault, topping the Panthers, 49.025-48.575, behind an event-best 9.850 on Alexis Mattern’s first-career vault. In addition, Sarah Grady, Tenille Funches and Jaine VanPutten each tallied a 9.800 to help bolster Ohio State on the event.
Midway through the meet, Ohio State held a 97.300-95.575 advantage.
The Buckeyes moved to floor exercise in the third rotation and won the event, 48.725-47.575, behind Mattern’s meet-best 9.875.
Ohio State concluded the meet on balance beam, topping the Panthers, 48.650-47.675. Maggie Dunn and Taylor Harrison each paced the Buckeyes with a 9.775.
The Buckeyes open the 2015 home schedule against Michigan and West Virginia at 4 p.m. Jan. 17.
