Matta Climbing All-Time Big Ten Wins Chart
Thad Matta has 125 career regular-season wins in Big Ten Conference play to rank No. 15(t) all-time in Big Ten history. Dr. Tom Davis of Iowa also is in the No. 15 spot with 125 wins from 1986-99.
Scouting the Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana is led in scoring by freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. with 16.9 points per game. He is followed by junior guard Yogi Ferrell (15.4 ppg). and sophomore Troy Williams at 13.5 ppg. Williams also leads the team with 6.2 rebounds a game. The Hoosiers are on a four-game winning streak in conference play with wins over the Buckeyes, Penn State, Illinois and Maryland for an overall league record of 5-1. For the season, Indiana is 15-4 overall and ranked No. 23 nationally.
The Ohio State vs. Indiana Series
Indiana leads the overall series with the Buckeyes 103-76 with Indiana leading 63-24 in Bloomington. The Buckeyes are 51-35 in Columbus and, in six neutral site meetings, Indiana owns a 5-1 record. Thad Matta’s Buckeyes are 11-8 vs. Indiana since the 2004-05 season. In the Matta era, Ohio State is 6-2 in games played at Value City Arena, 4-6 at Indiana and 1-0 in neutral site games. Buckeyes to Face Memphis in Miami in 2015-16
Ohio State added Memphis to the 2015-16 schedule when the Naismith Memorial Baskeball Hall of Fame announced the field for the first Hoophall Miami Invitational last Thursday. Ohio State will take on the Tigers at AmericanAirlines Arena Nov. 27 in Miami. The game is set for the day after Thanksgiving. Three other games to be played in Columbus also make up the event. Opponents have not been determined. The Buckeyes already are scheduled to play at Connecticut and against Kentucky in Brooklyn, New York, in the 2015 CBSSports Challenge.
Big Ten Names Russell FOW for 3rd Time
After a week averaging 24 points and nine rebounds in games vs. Michigan and at Iowa, Ohio State freshman D’Angelo Russell was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week Jan. 19. It’s the third time this season Russell was honored as the league’s rookie of the week. A Louisville, Kentucky, native, Russell is one of three players in the country, regardless of class, to average 17 points (18.6 ppg.), five rebounds (5.1 rpg.) and four assists (4.8 apg.).
