COLUMBUS, Ohio – A busy weekend is on tap for The Ohio State synchronized swimming team as it gets ready to host its Hall of Fame Alumni weekend. The three-day weekend kicks-off Friday evening and will run through the team’s annual “Sync Cancer” event on Sunday.
Former four-time All-American Becky Kim will join the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday evening in a ceremony held in The Ohio Union. A large number of synchronized swimming alumnae will be on hand to celebrate the evening. A special alumni gathering will take place after the ceremony at former Head Coach, Dr. Mary Jo Ruggieri’s house in Columbus.
On Saturday, the day begins with a campus tour, highlighting the ever changing Ohio State campus. That is followed by a Meet and Greet with members of the current team who will put on a short demo. National champions Emma Baranski and Julia Gaylard will also be on hand as part of the Meet and Greet.
Saturday afternoon, the team will host a tailgate leading up to the Ohio State football game against Cincinnati at 6 p.m. Kim and the other members of the Hall of Fame class will be honored on the field at halftime. Baranski and Gaylord will also be honored for their national championships during the game.
Finally on Sunday, the Buckeyes will host their second annual “Sync Cancer” event at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The swim-a-thon, inspired by Buckeye alumna Emily Marsh Fleming, will bring current and former members of Buckeye synchronized swimming together to join the fight against cancer and support Pelotonia’s Team Buckeye.
The participants in the “Sync Cancer” event will sign a “Today I Swim For…” banner and then jump in the pool for a mile swim. The current members of the Scarlet and Grey will be cheering the participants on while also putting on demonstrations in the pool. Guests will be treated to desserts and refreshments before ending the program with the beloved “Buckeye Circle.”
